About
the
Department
The Department of Zoology (along with
Botany and the Florida Museum of Natural History) is the unit on
the campus of the University of Florida that deals explicitly with
the conceptually unifying core disciplines of evolution and ecology,
and with the mechanistic underpinnings needed to understand the
origin, maintenance, and dynamics of biological systems (e.g. via
the disciplines of genetics, behavior, and physiology). The teaching
and research objectives of our department provide the broadly synthetic,
conceptual foundation needed for applications of biological principles
to specific taxa and systems by other units across the campus.
