Recent News

The Gator Amateur Radio Club broadcast from Seahorse Key in connection with the International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend, August 15-17.


A marine sciences workshop was held during for teachers and scientists during June, funded by Sea Grant.

New research projects include studies of: (i) West Nile virus in mosquito populations associated with bird colonies; (ii) attributes of subaqueous soils related to existing and potential submerged vegetation; and (iii) mutualism between cottonmouth snakes and wading birds at insular rookeries.

The next Open House, held jointly with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Florida Lighthouse Association, will be October 18-19. Boat transportation to the island will be available from the Island Hopper commercial tour boats in Cedar Key.
