Job Description
Supervises the maintenance
of the facilities of the Sea Horse Key Marine Laboratory in Cedar Key, Florida.
Located in Levey County, this is a teaching and research facility which
is in use seven days a week. The immediate supervisor for this position
is the Director of Seahorse Key Marine Laboratory, a Zoology faculty member.
Coordinates, assigns, and supervises personnel in research vessel operations,
maintenance, repair, and associated services in support of the programs of the
UF Maine laboratory.
Responsible for the maintenance of equipment on vessel.
Act as captain on board vessel. Must have Captain's License. Conduct inspections
of vessels to insure compliance with rules & regulations set by Dept, State
and Coast Guard.
Supervise and participate in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment.
Supervise all phases of hydraulic controlled equipment including design, repair
and maintenance, and the training of personnel.
Supervise and participate in the repair, maintenance, and operation of coastal
sampling and collecting equipment as appropriate.
Supervise and participate in the assembling and fabricating of equipment and
materials.
Designs, supervises and participate in the construction and maintenance of laboratory,
dormitory, and dockage facilities. Procures major components, all materials and
supplies for research vessel and physical plant. Directs, operates and maintains
marine railway for servicing UF vessels.
Conducts research with students and faculty in planning experimental equipment
and field collections. Makes biweekly and monthly reports of operations to immediate
supervisor.
