Undergraduate Program :: The Foreign Language Requirement

The Department of Zoology, as part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), does not require a specific number of hours of foreign language study. However, students must demonstrate "proficiency" in a foreign language before graduation. This can be demonstrated in one of the following ways:

  1. Complete the beginning level sequence of a foreign language (typically two semesters).
  2. Receive a satisfactory score on the AP Foreign Language exam, IB Foreign Language, CLEP exam, or SAT2 exam.
  3. Have your fluency evaluated by the appropriate foreign language department (for languages other than Spanish, French, German, and Latin).
  4. Submit a copy of your foreign passport from a non-English speaking country.

Specific details and instructions for all of these are provided on the Academic Advising web site.
